letter to local officials RE: election legitimacy and community safety

Dear Alderman ________,

I am grateful that Governor Pritzker co-signed the statement publicly committing to election integrity along with 11 other governors. I am, however, still very concerned about the president’s rhetoric and the actions of the RNC and their supporters nationally to undermine the election. Many of us will refuse to recognize illegitimate authority and will not consider any authority legitimate until every vote is counted. We are looking to minimize the threat of violence and stabilize the services that our communities depend on without negotiating with illegitimate authority. I am writing to ask what you will do to encourage your constituents, local businesses, and institutions—civil servants, hospitals, etc—to side with those of us standing up for democracy and to please announce your plans publicly before November 3.
